Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of one of America’s most beloved composers, Leonard Bernstein, as we begin the evening with the Overture to West Side Story. Orli Shaham has an impressive reputation as one of today’s most gifted pianists and will perform Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2 The Age of Anxiety based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning poem by W. H. Auden.  It portrays the spiritual journey of self-discovery of four people in a New York bar. We conclude with one of the most popular of all symphonies, Symphony No. 9, also known as “New World,” because Dvořák wrote it during his experience in the United States in the 1890s.
